SOCIAL

There is a lot going on in the Village.  A few of the highlights are listed below and a timetable of current events can be found here.  Also, look out for The Abbott, the quarterly local newsletter, for information about what is coming up. You can download the latest copy here

REVELS

Even in the depths of Winter, we are planning for a glorious Summer and the now-established Revels  which this year will be held on Saturday 22nd June.  The concept is simple– to get every part of the village to come together, get involved, and enjoy themselves!

It was great to see so many people last year– we reckon around 200– and we hope for the same again this year to enjoy the live music, the real-ale bar, the tea tent, games, competitions, raffle and BBQ.  The school have already stepped forward with some great stalls and we hope more will follow. This year it will run from 2pm to 7pm on what is becoming known as “Dick’s Field” and we have secured the services of “Bec and the Beards” for the afternoon slot (they were great last year– not to be missed!). We have also lined up live and recorded music to take us into the evening.  Thanks to all involved so far, especially Dick, Robin and Jane.

The programme is still fluid so we would love you to come and demonstrate your talents or organise a stall or session that you think might entertain  villagers; but if you just want to come and chill, that is fine too.  Write the date in your diary now.
In particular  we would like to hear from villagers who:

¨ Can sing—we can supply the words and music;

¨ Can  play instruments– it is a chance to air your talents to a friendly audience!

¨ Would like a stall to sell produce, crafts or other goods- £15 a stall– you keep the profits;

¨ Can put up tents, tables, staff stalls and generally help set-up and run the event on the day– the more the merrier!

If you want to get involved please e mail [email protected] or contact Ann on 538598.

Yard Sale

Got a garage full of stuff you will never use?  Clothes you have grown out of?  Toys, no longer required?  Then register for the SWANTON ABBOTT Yard sale on Sunday 26th May 9am start. It will be £5 a Yard and we will produce a map of the stalls and do the advance publicity to maximise your chance of turning unwanted goods into cash.  The Village Hall will be open and serving refreshments for the visitors so hopefully they will stay longer, waiting for the date-and-walnut cake to appear…. plus you get to sit in your own garden for a time while others finance it! What’s not to like?
